How City Schools Do Field Day

In the suburbs, field day literally means running all over fields, playing games. Obviously cities are lacking the “field” in Field Day so things have to be done a little different. At the Dunbar School in North Philadelphia, they throw an end of the year party for the kids. They can get their face painted, play black-top games and enjoy water-ice and hot dogs. Coming from a wealthy school district, I feel like I took advantage of these special events when I was little. These kids go to some of the poorest public schools in Philadelphia and events like these are so special to them. Ronald “Coach Big” Goodwin is the head of this operation and truly an inspiration to the kids.
